With some political and social concerns around the X platform (formerly twitter), there has been a lot of movement and hype about Bluesky, a platform with a similar format to Twitter. The platform was founded in 2022, but has seen an increase in new users after the 2024 election.

Worldcom Partner, PCI has been asked if they should jump ship to BlueSky. The answer?

“Maybe, but remember Google+ or Clubhouse?”

As a new social platform gains attention and users, it is common for communications professionals  to think they must quickly adopt a new platform and change their social media strategy. Although some social platforms, such as TikTok, ended up having long-term sustainability in a social strategy, it is okay to take a moment to see how the platform evolves and make an informed decision.

How to assess if it is time to migrate

  • Follow your target audiences: Social media strategy should be centered around your target audiences, so follow them wherever they go
  • Engagement rate: it tells us if people are actually doing something with your content.
  • Followers and impressions: check your followers and impressions or views (the total times your content is displayed to someone)
  • Test it out: it is okay to put your flag into the ground and test things out: You lose nothing by claiming your profile
