As society becomes more digital, so does the need for the communication and PR industry to use smart technology. Through the use of algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (AI), for example, there are real opportunities for PR to leverage technological advancements.

AI is a broad term for many underlying fields, including natural language processing and image recognition. AI is expected to add $13 trillion to the global economy by 2030, according to forecasts from management consulting group McKinsey.

However, studies in the communication sector indicate a lack of knowledge and direction.

The Marketing AI Institute clearly defines 11 ways AI can transform the PR industry.

  1. Product press releases and media reports with natural language generation (NLG). 
  2. Perform advanced sentiment analysis on media clippings and social posts/comments.
  3. Identify and extract names, places, businesses, events, data and brands from any document, video or audio file.
