TV interviews are a nerve-wracking experience for most people, so adding the remote technology aspect heightens stress and challenges for interviewees.
Use six tips from Worldcom partners at Phillips Group to have a stress-free and successful virtual media interview.
Will you be using video conferencing technology such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams? Before your interview, check your technology to ensure it is working properly (download the correct software and ensure your computer meets the right technical specifications) and your internet connection is strong enough for video streaming.
Look at the camera on the top of your computer – not at the image on the monitor – when answering questions. This way, it will look as though you’re looking directly at the audience. Also, clear your background of clutter, distractions and personal items.
Research the interviewing journalist’s background. What kind of stories or subjects are they interested in? What is their usual interviewing style – casual or formal? Gentle or aggressive?
