IOWA EVENTS CENTER DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT PLAN
Over a five-year period, Strategic America (SA), on behalf of the proposed $217 million Iowa Events Center (IEC), built community and state support for the largest single project in Polk County’s history. The IEC consists of a 16,000 seat-arena, an exhibition hall, Iowa Hall of Pride museum and a renovated Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
SA’s strategic plan included research and assessment of public awareness and understanding, branding, ongoing counsel, crisis and issues management, media relations and informational materials, including an onsite Web cam available online.
More than $90 million was acquired through public and private grants, loans and donors. The Des Moines Register poll showed 67% believed that building the IEC was vital to Iowa’s quality of life. News coverage, initially skeptical, included strong editorial support over time. SA received numerous awards from professional groups.
