Client Successes

After Years of Negelct, Downtown KC Comes Alive

Downtown Kansas City, Mo., languished from years of neglect. Recently, a determined group of urban pioneers worked to revive the area.

Sturges Word Communications joined in the effort, working with several key players in the renaissance including influencer group, The Downtown Council; developer, The Cordish Company; contractors Walton Construction and Hoffman Cortes; and tenants Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and Lucky Strike Lanes, on public relations and creative initiatives.

In 2007, years of investment and hard work paid off as new restaurants, shops, and a state-of-the art arena welcomed their first patrons to a revitalized downtown Kansas City.

Market Intelligence

It doesn’t matter what business you’re in or whether you live in a blue state or red state, there’s an undeniable sentiment affecting every commercial venture today: Go green, or go home.

Sturges Word sees this trend across all of its market sectors.

Developers and construction companies are building up not out, as new urbanist developments replace enclosed malls and strip centers.

Restaurants and retailers recognize a growing number of their clients expect meals with sustainable ingredients and responsibly manufactured products.

Utilities face rolling blackouts and power shortages as power plants built decades ago reach the end of their useful life and new capacity can’t keep pace. Renewable portfolio standards and distributed generation will transform the industry.

Financiers increasingly consider environmental impact when assessing a project’s viability. While today’s regulatory environment might accommodate a particular use, future regulations could render a project obsolete or unprofitable. Ventures that make sense with $90-per-barrel oil might not be feasible if fuel costs double.

Keeping conservation and sustainability at the forefront of every project isn’t just a feel-good notion; it’s essential for long-term success in a changing world.
